12 Days to Less – Last Day!

It’s December 12 and that means it’s the final day of my 12 Days to Less Minimalism Challenge! If you’ve been following along, you should have at least 78 less items in your home right now. This is a great feeling as you head into the holidays. Not only have you prioritized what items are truly valuable to you, but you’ve made a difference in the lives of others by donating goods to someone who can use them. Give yourself a pat on the back!

Here are pics of my last two days of donations:

For Day 11, I finally bagged up some outgrown clothes of my daughter’s. I’m dropping them off at a friend’s house TODAY!

I’m actually most proud of this Day 12 donation. Josh and I spent some time going through all our tools and finding duplicates. We aren’t even that handy… why did we have all these screwdrivers and wrenches???

The most important thing now is to get those donations to the charity (or recipient) of your choice. I know this is often where the donating process falls apart! I’m as guilty as anyone of keeping a box of donations in my closet for months. But this is the key to completing this challenge! My best advice?  Get those boxes in your car now. Stop reading this, grab your donations, and put them in your car. I recommend the passenger seat so you have to look at them every time you get in your vehicle. And remember, Santa is watching, so no taking them out unless it’s to drop them off at the donation site! Bringing them back in the house is a big no-no. Allow the inconvenience of driving around with boxes of donations to motivate you to drop them off. It works every time. In fact, putting donations in the car is one of the last things I do for my clients before I leave their homes.

Not sure where to take them? I always recommend Goodwill, since they have many convenient locations and they accept nearly everything you’d want to donate. Read my recent blog post about 6 Surprising Reasons You Should Donate to Goodwill. They are an awesome organization and do so much good for our communities!

I wish you all a very merry holiday season! I’m grateful for each and every one of you readers. Keep reading into the New Year for organization inspiration. January is coming fast, and along with it, everyone’s favorite resolution… No, not to marry a rock star. NO, not to find a way to magically get yourself into your pajamas with your face washed and teeth brushed when you start to feel tired at night. (Although that would be awesome… let me know if you figure that one out.) January is a time we all want to get a little more organized. And I look forward to offering you some helpful tips and encouragement as you do that!

Happy Holidays, dear readers!
